From the office of the School Counselor Dora R-III School District
2019-2020
Hi there! My name is Amelia Menz & I am the School Counselor for all students at Dora Schools, grades Kindergarten through 12th grade.
While this will be my 6th year as a multi-level School Counselor it is my 4th year as a Dora Falcon . . . I am excited to continue work with your students, meet new friendly faces & make this the best year yet!
In addition to being a counselor I am also the District's Testing Coordinator, which means I cover & implement the state & federal mandated assessments, along with advanced academic testing as assigned by the district. Some examples of the testing your child might be a part of include:
MAP (Missouri Assessment Program) for grades 3-8, typically held during the month of April.
NAEP (National Assessment of Educational Progress) for grades 4, 8 & 12. Students are assessed in a variety of subjects
ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery)for high school students.
ACT (American College Testing) for high school students. Please note: the mandated ACT plus Writing that was previously given to all grade 11 students in Missouri public & charter schools is no longer required. Students may continue to register for regular National Testing Dates.
EOC (End-of-Course) for high school students. Required exam subjects include: Biology, Government, English II & Algebra I.
A Little Background:
In December of 2011 I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Advertising & Public Relations from the University of South Dakota. During my undergraduate years I was a member of USD's Division I women's swimming & diviving team - GO YOTES!
In May of 2014 I graduated from USD for a 2nd time with a Masters Degree in Counseling in Education, along with an emphasis in school counseling. I love what I do!
I was born & raised in Des Moines, Iowa. Some fun facts about me: I am an only child! My favorite fizzy drink is Diet Coke & my all-time favorite dessert is s'mores. My dream vacation destination is Australia... maybe someday I'll be able to visit!
I currently live in Pottersville with my husband Chad, our son Bode, & the cutest (in my opinion!) long-haired chihuahua, Rami. In March of 2018 we welcomed Holly, a certified assistance dog, into our family -- She will be joining students at school throughout the school year. We are currently renovating an old farmhouse so that keeps us extra busy!
I will be meeting with grades K-6 for elementary classroom guidance tri-weekly throughout the year & am very excited to have a great year with all the faculty & students!
